Morley Conservation Area Appraisal and Management Plan (CAAMP)
A new boundary is proposed for the Morley Conservation Area and a draft Conservation Area Appraisal and Management Plan (CAAMP) has been produced setting out what makes Morley a special place and opportunities to preserve and enhance its local character.
This will see Morley’s two current conservation areas of Dartmouth Park and the town centre unified and the area covered by the conservation area enlarged. The new boundaries would recognise and protect investments delivered through the Morley Town Deal’s Heritage Investment Programme and ensure improvements to buildings within the conservation area are maintained.
Buildings within a conservation area are protected from unauthorised demolition, and new development must meet higher standards of design than elsewhere. Permission would also be needed from the council for certain developments.
The CAAMP plan provides the basis for making informed, sustainable decisions in the positive management, protection, and enhancement of the Conservation Area, and provides a clear understanding of the special interest of Morley by:
o Assessing how the settlement has developed.
o Analysing its present-day character.
o Identifying opportunities for enhancement.
There will be a Public Meeting at Morley Town Hall on Thursday 16 March at 6 pm where people can hear more about the conservation area and ask questions.
